Attendance

Supporting Regular Attendance at SEHC Junior School

Regular attendance helps our rangatahi feel confident, connected, and successful in their learning. Across Aotearoa New Zealand, schools are working together to support improved attendance and provide early help for students who may be finding it hard to come to school. SEHC Junior School Mandatory Attendance plan can be viewed here: Attendance Management Plan 2026.

At Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate Junior School, we are part of an initiative that allows us to provide extra in-school support for students with ongoing absences. This helps us identify concerns early and work alongside whānau to remove barriers to attending school.

Please let us know as soon as possible if your child will be absent.
Quick communication helps us keep our rangatahi safe and allows us to provide support when needed.

Reporting an Absence

If your child will be absent, please contact our Attendance team:

  • Message using HERO App as this will go directly to your child’s teacher

  • Call Junior School (09) 274 5782 extension 321 and leave a message (Your child’s name, room and reason for absence)

You may also receive a text message or phone call from our Attendance team. Please reply if you receive one — your response helps us keep accurate records and support our students. 🙌

Working Together with Whānau

We understand that whānau have many commitments. Our Attendance team approaches with care, patience, and respect. We appreciate your support and kindness as we work together to ensure every rangatahi feels supported to attend school every day. Our role is to support students in returning to regular attendance (5 days a week).
