Commencing May 2026
The SEHC Board is seeking expressions of interest for a co-opted Māori Representative to join the Board from May 2026.
This role is an important part of our commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to ensuring that Māori voice, perspectives, and aspirations are meaningfully represented at a governance level across SEHC.
About the Role
The Māori Representative will:
Provide cultural insight and guidance to the Board
Support the development and monitoring of strategic goals relating to Māori achievement, wellbeing, and success as Māori
Strengthen relationships with mana whenua, hapū, iwi and wider Ōtara Community
Contribute to governance discussions and decision-making
We are looking for someone who:
Has a strong grounding in te ao Māori
Is committed to the success of Māori learners & in partnership with whānau
Can contribute confidently at a governance level & support the school Principals.
Values collaboration, integrity, and service
Governance experience is welcome but not essential. Induction and ongoing support will be provided.
Term
The appointment will commence in May 2026, with the term confirmed upon appointment.

Student Service Officer – SEHC Senior School (Term Time Only, Start Term 2)
We are seeking a reliable and resilient Student Service Officer to join our thriving school community SEHC Senior School, commencing in Term 2. This term-time-only role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with young people and can confidently support a range of student needs. Time 8.30 – 3.30pm (Holiday work may be required if needed due to an event at school).
About the role:
- Supporting students who may be disengaged throughout the school day
- Assisting students to transition to and from class
- Supporting students to return home safely when required
- Supporting SLT and Whānau Leaders with pastoral follow-up, including home visits and students under 16
- Building positive, respectful relationships with students
- Working collaboratively as part of a team to support student wellbeing and engagement

Purpose of the Role
The Student Service Officer plays a key role in supporting student engagement, wellbeing, and safety across the school. This role focuses on working alongside students who may be disengaged, supporting positive transitions, and strengthening connections between school, home, and whānau.
Key Responsibilities
Student Engagement & Support
- Support students who are disengaged or at risk of disengagement throughout the school day
- Maintain an active on-the-ground presence to encourage students to attend class promptly
- Minimise loitering and lateness through positive redirection and support
- Assist students with transitions to and from class
- Provide in-the-moment support to encourage positive behaviour and learning engagement
- Build strong, respectful, and trusting relationships with students and staff
Pastoral & Wellbeing Support
- Work alongside SLT and Whānau /Assistant Whānau Leaders to support student wellbeing.
- Follow up on pastoral concerns, including supporting students under 16
- Participate in home visits where required to strengthen school–whānau connections
- Support students to return home safely when necessary
Collaboration & Teamwork

We are seeking a motivated and well-organised Gateway Coordinator to lead and manage our Gateway and vocational pathway programmes.
The Role
The Gateway Coordinator is responsible for the effective administration and delivery of the school’s Gateway programme, ensuring students gain valuable workplace learning experiences aligned with NZQA standards and vocational pathways.
This role includes working closely with students, whānau, staff, employers, and external training providers to support successful transitions beyond school.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Coordination
Manage the school’s Gateway programme in accordance with Ministry of Education and NZQA requirements
Oversee Gateway and relevant STAR-funded placements
Ensure accurate documentation, reporting, and compliance
Monitor student attendance, engagement, and achievement
Employer & Industry Liaison
Develop and maintain strong relationships with local employers and industry partners
Source appropriate workplace placements aligned with student career goals
Conduct workplace visits to monitor student progress and ensure Health & Safety compliance
Ensure all workplace agreements and risk management processes are completed
Student Support
Identify and prepare students for Gateway placements
Support students with CV preparation, interview skills, and work-readiness training
Assist students in achieving relevant unit standards
Track student progress and provide pastoral and academic support as required
Work collaboratively with Whānau / Assistant Whānau Leaders (Deans), SLT, Careers Advisors, and teaching staff
Compliance & Administration
Ensure all placements meet Health and Safety at Work Act requirements
Maintain accurate records for audit and funding purposes
Manage consent forms, EOTC applications, training agreements, and assessment documentation

The School Counsellor plays a vital role in supporting the wellbeing of students in Years 9 –13 who may be experiencing personal, social, emotional, or behavioural challenges.
This role works collaboratively with whānau/families, the Whanau Hub,, teaching staff, and senior leadership to ensure a holistic and culturally responsive approach to student support.
Key Responsibilities
Counselling & Student Support
Provide one-on-one counselling for students
Facilitate small group counselling sessions
Support students experiencing a range of social, emotional, and behavioural challenges
Undertake individualised risk assessments and respond to crisis situations effectively
Work with external agencies
Whānau & Community Engagement
Engage with whānau/families to support student wellbeing and outcomes
Build strong, respectful relationships that support a holistic understanding of each student
Collaboration & Teamwork
Work as part of the Student Services team to triage referrals
Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
Collaborate with teaching staff, boarding staff, school psychologist, and senior leadership
Professional Practice

Essential:
Proven experience working with adolescents and/or children

Formal qualification in counselling or a related field
