The Arts and Culture

Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate Senior School prides itself on recognising and utilising the artistic and musical talents of our students. We provide a range of opportunities in the Arts for students to discover their potential, explore their interests and strive for excellence in their activity of choice.

The Art Department proudly showcases the talents of the students by allowing students the opportunities to complete projects around the school and community. This has helped the school strengthen its relationship and ties with the Otara community. Our most recent projects have been the mural at the local Otara Scorpions Rugby League clubrooms and, in collaboration with students from the Middle School, the murals at the Gilbert Road shops.

In the past, our students have been part of dance events such as Bring It On. We have also staged drama productions here at school. These two components of the Arts curriculum are two areas that we are developing and coincide with what our Music Department is teaching- how to perform.

Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate Senior School is unique because we celebrate our strong Maori and Pacific Island cultures to cement our schools values. We are very fortunate as a school to have students and staff from diverse cultures.

Every year, students have the opportunity to participate in the annual ASB Polyfest competition. Regardless of what ethnic background students come from, they are free to join any of the following cultural groups:

  • Kapa Haka
  • Cook Island Anau
  • Samoan Aiga
  • Tongan Fanau
  • Fanau Niue
  • Diversity Group
